Dangerous Mindset

You know we keep talking about the perils of the short-term, quartely financials orientation of corporates. One thing more dangerous than this mindset is the short-term election orientated mindset of our politicians. This leads to only short-term planning and budgeting. I am not talking about the planning commission here but about our city politicians. People who effect our life on a day to day basis.

"Elections are in 2 years. What is the use of sanctionining a flyover which will take 3 years to construct but will solve the issue better? I will sanction a smaller flyover which takes a year to complete. Faster solution, money for all people involved...lovely!!!"

How do you change this mindset? And what happens when the corporate world sleeps with such politicians? Luckily there are solutions. There are always solutions. Have you ever thought about them? Do you think you play a role in those solutions or do you think its Shaktiman time?

This is exactly what is happening...

Mayawati comes to power - scraps the schemes set in motion by Mulayam.

Deve Gowda - sees no benefit in flyovers and world class roads in Bangalore, because urban population is not his votebank.

UPA spends all its time in getting its tainted cabinet ministers off the hook - by twisting legal standards and laws.

One solution - is to relieve the bureaucracy and the police from the clutches of the Politicians.

We have a situation where IAS officers, Bureaucrats take orders from often uneducated and frequently Criminal Politicians. Because thats what the structure of our system is.

The only other hope i see is Media. A good media can play role here. Not the cheap AAJ TAK/Zee News Variety. But NDTV Kind - but much better.
